Exploring Chapman’s Peak Drive is unforgettable any season, using any mode of transport. However, we are obviously biased, so our top choice is taking Babe Blu, our vintage VW T2 kombi (or Bulli) for a cruise along the winding road from our base in Hout Bay, all the way to Noordhoek.

Chapman’s Peak

This spectacular road has 141 curves which snake along the cliffs. And since you have to drive at snails pace, there is nothing more to do than sit back, relax and enjoy the views. Especially since you won’t be driving!

Stops along the way include East Fort, the secret cave and one of our favourite picnic spots in Cape Town.

Noordhoek

By the time you get to Noordhoek, you will no doubt have worked up an appetite. So the only option is to choose one of the many fantastic cafés or restaurants in the area. One of our favourites, is Cape Point Vineyards. They offer a wonderful picnic on their lawns, looking out towards Chapman’s Peak and Long Beach.

When to go?

If you are looking for a super relaxed experience, this kombi tour is one of the most chilled things you can do while in Cape Town. Winter or summer, any time is good to go. However the best time of the day (in our opinion) is mid to late afternoon, or sunset time when the sky is a mix dusky pink and golden orange.

As the famous quote goes “When the sun is setting, leave whatever you are doing and watch it.”
